Puerto
Rican Parrot
(Amazona Vittata)
This is
the PuertoRican parrot. It is an endangered bird that only
lives in the PuertoRican
rain
forest "El Yunque" and
other places throughout the island, like the "Rio Abajo" Forest
in Utuado. PuertoRican government has passed several laws that
plan to prevent extinction. Even though it has been successful,
and the number of these nesting has increased from 20% to 70%,
the PuertoRican parrot is still an endangered species. In "El
Yunque" there are several nesting areas established by federal
government in order to prevent its extinction. This program has
been successful because the number of parrots is increasing. |
